Well I discovered something tonight that makes my heart sing. I can free motion quilt. I just didn't have the right machine. I picked up a Bernina 1630 a few years ago, that my husband found for me in a local sale paper. It was in mint condition and at $200 it was steal. When this machine was new I really lusted after it as being a young mother in no way could afford this machine. So I finally got one. I played with it for a while then put it away and continued sewing on my Janome. Which is a very nice machine however I could never free motion on it. So on a whim tonight I tried it on the Bernina and it free motions like a dreams or should I say it allows me to free motion like a dream. I still have a long way to go but now I have hope. I no longer feel free motioned challenged anymore.
The Bernina 1630 is/was a great machine. If you come across a good used one I would snap it up. I never knew what all the fuss was about Berninas I just though them overly expensive. I've heard of nothing but problems with the new ones. I do know I had to make no adjusments t the tension or anything. It looked great on both sides. Tomorrow evening I will be doing a lot more free motioning.
I wish mine was this white. It's yellowed with age. But it still works just fine!
My trees are coming along
But if I continue to do this blogging thing I'm going to have to invested in a decent digital camera, the phone just isn't getting it.
Well getting late

You are exactly right about those older Berninas. You really just don't have to worry about the machine at all...no tension adjustments, etc. I'm really happy with my second one, a 1090, I think, or is it an 1190? In any case, I wore out my old 830; what a workhorse!
ReplyDeleteBernie is getting ready to go for a spa treatment. I just hope he comes back the same. Slight tension issue with a different kind of thread in the bobbin and zig zag isn't good and his light is broken. But minor things.
